October 28, 2024

On October 27, 2024, at 8:08 p.m., the MIT Police responded to Alpha Delta Phi, an MIT fraternity located at 351 Massachusetts Avenue, in Cambridge on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that at 02:50 a.m., a male suspect entered the residence and stole two bicycles, a D.J. turntable and a pair of headphones. There were no signs of forced entry.      

September 20, 2024

On Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 08:30 A.M., the MIT Police responded to Beta Theta Pi, an MIT fraternity located at 119 Bay State Road in Boston on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that someone entered the building and stole two bicycles from the basement bicycle storage room. There were no signs of forced entry. There is a set of French doors in the rear of the building that are unable to be secured. 

• There has been a recent uptick in bicycle and scooter thefts from different parts of campus.
• Make sure to secure your bike or scooter with a robust lock through the frame.
 

July 25, 2024

On July 25, 2024 at 12:57pm, the MIT Police received a report regarding five (5) incidents of Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child under the age of 14. The incidents were reported to have occurred on July 24, 2024 between 7:30am and 8:50am, while the victims were swimming in the lap pool at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center. This is the extent of information provided to the MIT Police.

May 15, 2024

On May 15, 2024, at 12:20 p.m., the MIT Police responded to Alpha Delta Phi, an MIT fraternity located at 351 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that at 03:51a.m., a male suspect forcibly broke through the front door and entered the residence. The suspect then stole a backpack containing a play station console, game cartridges, attachments and a guitar in a soft case.     

February 2, 2024

On February 2, 2024, at approximately 11:30 AM, the MIT Police responded to 487 Commonwealth Ave. (Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity) regarding a burglary. According to video surveillance provided by the resident, an unknown male approached the front door at approximately 8:15 AM and removed a package. The break-in appears to have occurred between 8:15 AM and 9:00 AM. Pry marks were discovered on the rear entrance to the residence. A bicycle and some cables were reported stolen. 

January 26, 2024

On January 26, 2024, at approximately 12:13 PM, the MIT Police responded to 487 Commonwealth Ave.  (Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity). According to the reporting party, at approximately 5:00 AM, someone forcibly entered the residence through the front door and removed a Cannondale bicycle, color white. There were signs of forced entry to the front door frame.

January 15, 2024

On January 15, 2024, at approximately 10:15AM, the MIT Police responded to 487 Commonwealth Ave.  (Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity). According to the reporting party, at approximately 5:33 AM, two individuals entered the residence through the front door and removed power tools, 2-bicycles and delivery packages. There were no signs of forced entry. Video surveillance of the entry to the house, which is owned and maintained by the residents, showed two individuals entering the front entrance of house at approximately 5:33 AM on January 15, 2024. 

January 3, 2024

On January 2, 2024, at approximately 7:30 PM, the MIT Police responded to 416 Beacon Street (Delta Tau Delta fraternity). According to the reporting party, a contractor had arrived at the house at approximately 7:00 AM, around 12 hours earlier. The contractor reported that the lock box to the house appeared to have been damaged and the keys to the house were missing.
Video surveillance of the entry to the house, which is owned and maintained by the residents, showed an unknown individual entering the house at approximately 1:00 PM on January 1, 2024. The unknown individual then removed a large, dark-colored backpack and departed approximately 15 minutes later.

December 29, 2023

On December 29, 2023, at 6:05 P.M., the MIT Police responded to Alpha Delta Phi, an MIT Fraternity located at 351 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that at 3:49 A.M. on December 29, 2023, two males entered the building through the front door and stole two bicycles from a basement bicycle storage room. There were no signs of forced entry.

October 6, 2023

On October 6, 2023, at 10:42 A.M., the MIT Police responded to Ashdown House, an MIT residence hall located at 235 Albany Street in Cambridge, on a report of an aggravated assault committed against a female MIT student. The reporting person stated that several months ago, the perpetrator, who she described as an approximately 30-year-old white male, befriended her, and they started a dating relationship. 

The reporting person stated that at approximately 10:30 A.M. this morning, the perpetrator threatened her with a knife, and then fled from the building with her phone, wallet, and keys. Approximately thirty minutes later, there was an attempt to use the reporting person’s ID to access another space on campus where the reporting person works. MIT Police have since deactivated the stolen ID card. The perpetrator may have provided the reporting person with a false name, and neither she nor the MIT Police currently know his true identity.

MIT Police are continuing to investigate this incident.

August 22, 2023

On August 22, 2023, at 04:42 hrs., the MIT Police responded to Student House, an MIT Independent Living Group located at 111 Bay State Road in Boston on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that she returned to her room and observed a male standing in her room. She called out to the suspect and he then fled her room. MIT Police conducted a thorough search of the house and concluded that the suspect was no longer in the residence. During the search officers discovered numerous open windows in the rear of the house. The investigation into this matter is ongoing. At 10:00AM, MIT Police detectives received information that two (2) laptop computers and a wallet had been stolen sometime overnight from this residence. MIT Police Detectives have identified a person of interest in this investigation..    

April 23, 2023

On April 23, 2023, at approximately 12:00 AM, an MIT student reported that she was attacked from behind while entering her residence through the rear alley of the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority, located at 515 Beacon Street in Boston.
According to report, the perpetrator initially approached the victim/survivor on a bicycle and asked for food. As the victim/survivor went to enter her residence, the perpetrator groped her from behind and then followed her into the residence, where he further assaulted her. The victim/survivor fought off the perpetrator and called 911. The perpetrator fled on a bicycle.

March 1, 2023

On March 1, 2023 at 6:45 AM, the MIT Police responded to the New Vassar Residence Hall located at 189 Vassar Street, Cambridge for a report of a burglary. The burglary is reported to have occurred between 10:00 PM on February 28, 2023 and 6:30 AM on March 1, 2023. During this time, forced entry was made into a locked room in the kitchen and items were removed.

February 26, 2023

On February 26, 2023, the MIT Police received a report from a neighboring police department regarding a sexual assault. The incident reportedly occurred last night at Kappa Sigma, an MIT fraternity, located at 407 Memorial Drive.
The MIT Police are actively investigating this incident and are asking for any information bystanders or community members may have.

November 16, 2022

On November 15, 2022 at 10:15am, the MIT Police responded to Building 14 located at 160 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, for a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that between November 11th and November 13th, 2022, an unknown person was observed via CCTV, entering their office on numerous occasions. The victim reported a number of items missing. There were no signs of forced entry.

September 21, 2022

On September 21, 2022, at 10:20 am, the MIT Police responded to Delta Kappa Epsilon, an MIT fraternity located at 403 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, for a report of a burglary. The reporting parties stated sometime on September 21, 2022, between 12:30am and 9:30am, unknown individual(s) entered the residence and removed multiple items from three different bedrooms. There are no signs of forced entry.

November 23, 2021

Incident One
On November 22, 2021, at 2:31 AM, the MIT Police responded to Phi Delta Theta, an MIT fraternity located at 97 Bay State Road in Boston, on a report of an attempted burglary. The reporting party stated that a few minutes before, he was awakened by an individual on the fire escape who was attempting to open his third floor bedroom window. When confronted by the reporting party, the individual fled down the fire escape in an unknown direction.

Incident Two
On November 22, 2021, at 11:01 PM, the MIT Police responded to Sigma Nu, an MIT fraternity located at 99 Bay State Road in Boston, on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that sometime between 2:30AM and 2:55AM on Monday, November 22, 2021, someone entered the building and stole a television, headphones, and miscellaneous electronic devices. There were no signs of forced entry to the building.

September 23, 2021

On September 23, 2021, at 11:43 AM, the MIT Police responded to Phi Delta Theta, an MIT fraternity house located at 97 Bay State Rd. in Boston on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that sometime between 12:00 AM and 9:00AM on Thursday September 23, 2021, someone entered his room and removed a gray Mac Book Pro Laptop computer. 

September 13, 2021

This timely warning includes two motor vehicle thefts within a two hour period at 3 Ames Street in Cambridge, Ma.

On Sunday September 12, 2021, the MIT Police responded to East Campus, an MIT residence hall located at 3 Ames Street on a report of a Motor Vehicle Theft. The reporting party stated that he parked his 2021 Bintelli Escape moped color blue/white, at the bicycle rack at 9:00 PM on Sunday September 12, 2021 and when he returned at 11:00 PM, his moped was missing.

On Monday September 13, 2021, the MIT Police responded to East Campus, an MIT residence hall located at 3 Ames Street on a report of a Motor Vehicle Theft. The reporting party stated that his 2020 Amigo Scooter color red was parked at the bicycle rack at 3 Ames Street at 11:30 PM on September 12, 2021, and when he returned at 2:00 AM on Monday September 13, 2021, his scooter was missing.
