August 28, 2021

On August 28, 2021, at 8:39 PM, the MIT Police responded to Sigma Alpha Epsilon, an MIT fraternity house located at 165 Bay State Rd. in Boston on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that sometime between 3:00 PM and 6:00PM on Saturday August 28, 2021, someone entered the building through the rear basement kitchen door and stole 2 bicycles from the kitchen area. The door was unlocked at the time of the thefts and there are no signs of forced entry.

October 28, 2020

On October 28, 2020, at approximately 8:00 AM, the MIT Police along with the Cambridge Fire Department responded to the NW35 residence hall located at 235 Albany Street, Cambridge, MA. Upon interviewing the reporting party, she stated she observed a fire in which cardboard boxes were placed on top of a stove in the kitchen area of the 1st floor. At that time, the oven and all four burners appeared to be on. The MIT Police Department and the Cambridge Fire Department are continuing to investigate.

October 25, 2020

On October 25, 2020, at 2:03 AM, the MIT Police responded to building 66 located at 25 Ames St. on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that he returned to his office to find an unknown male rummaging through his desk and personal belongings. The suspect then quickly exited the area. The reporting party further stated that after checking his belongings, he noticed that $30.00 had been stolen. There were no signs of forced entry.

October 14, 2020

On October 14, 2020, at 10:29 AM, the MIT Police responded to Zeta Psi, an MIT fraternity house located at 233 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that sometime between 10:00 PM on Tuesday October 13, 2020 and 10:30 AM on Wednesday October 14, 2020, someone broke a glass vestibule window, gained entry to the building and stole a large delivery box containing a bicycle from the lobby.
 

October 8, 2020

On October 4, 2020, at 12:47 PM, the MIT Police responded to Phi Delta Theta, an MIT fraternity house located at 97 Bay State Rd. in Boston on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that sometime overnight on Sunday October 4, 2020 someone removed an Air Conditioner from a third floor rear window and placed it on the fire escape. The suspect then entered the residence through the window and stole electronic equipment and food items.

July 20, 2020

On the morning of July 20, 2020, the MIT Police were investigating an open exterior door at Walker Memorial (Building 50) located at 142 Memorial Drive in Cambridge. An interior check of the building was conducted and MIT Police Officers found two third floor offices that had been broken into and one office with visible damage to the door lock. All rooms involved had signs of forced entry.

July 16, 2020

On July 16, 2020, at 1:56 PM, the victim of an aggravated assault came into the MIT Police station to file a police report. The victim stated that at approximately 6:10 AM this morning while working on the second floor of MIT building #1, located at 33 Massachusetts Avenue, he entered a classroom and encountered a male sleeping on the floor. The victim advised the suspect to leave the area and that he was going to call the MIT Police. The suspect then charged at the victim and forcibly pushed him to the ground. The suspect then fled the area. The victim sustained personal injuries as a result of the assault and battery.

April 20, 2020

On April 19, 2020 at 7:10 PM, the MIT Police responded to Theta XI, an MIT fraternity located at 64-66 Bay State Rd. in Boston on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that on Saturday April 18, 2020 at 5:53 PM, someone entered the residence and removed 3 surveillance cameras. One camera was taken from the first floor stairwell of 64 Bay State Rd. and 2 cameras were taken from the first floor area of 66 Bay State Rd. The suspect also removed clothing from the first floor entrance area of 66 Bay State Rd. There were no signs of forced entry.

March 12, 2020

On March 11, 2020, at 5:17 PM, the MIT Police responded to Epsilon Theta, an independent living group located at 259 St. Paul Street in Brookline, on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that sometime between 11:59 PM on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, and 12:05 AM on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, someone not affiliated with the organization entered the residence through a locked rear exterior door. Video surveillance shows the suspect entering the rear door and, upon noticing the surveillance camera, removing it from the wall.  As there were no eyewitnesses, no other information is available about the suspect’s activities within the living group.  This is the second burglary at this location in the last week.

March 9, 2020

On March 8, 2020 at 3:30 PM, the MIT Police responded to Epsilon Theta, an independent living group located at 259 St. Paul Street in Brookline on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that sometime between 6:00 PM on Thursday March 5, 2020 and 3:30 PM on Sunday March 8, 2020, someone forced open a basement bedroom window. The suspect(s) entered this location and removed currency from an unlocked basement bedroom. 

March 2, 2020

On the afternoon of March 2, 2020, a report was made to the MIT Police concerning a burglary in building 64, a residence hall located at 3 Ames Street in Cambridge. The reporting party stated that she had a locked cash box and cash box key in her room from an event the previous evening. The reporting party stated that currency was removed from the cash box and was missing. The theft occurred sometime between 1:00 AM and 10:30 AM on Monday March 2, 2020. There were no signs of forced entry.

Incident Summary
***The notification was made to the MIT Police through a third party in compliance with the Clery Act, a federal law.  Notifications made to the MIT Police in this manner often do not contain names, suspect descriptions, or specific dates and times.***
A report was made to the MIT Police Department about an alleged incident involving the possible use of a date-rape drug and an attempted sexual assault of a female MIT student at an unnamed MIT fraternity over the weekend of February 21-22. It was reported that the female MIT student, who disclosed that she had not consumed any alcohol, received what she thought was a cup of water by an unknown male individual and quickly became disoriented. It was further reported that the accused brought the victim/survivor upstairs in the fraternity and began to remove her clothing until a friend of the victim/survivor interrupted. The victim/survivor and her friend left the fraternity. This is the extent of information provided to the MIT Police.
 

February 24, 2020

On February 24, 2020 at 3:30 PM, the MIT Police responded to Epsilon Theta, an independent living group located at 259 St. Paul Street in Brookline on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that sometime between 12:00 PM on Friday February 21, 2020 and 2:00 PM on Monday February 22, 2020, someone entered two bedrooms and removed currency and personal property. There were no signs of forced entry. 

February 2, 2020

On February 2, 2020 at approximately 12:20 PM, a report was made to the MIT Police concerning a burglary in Building 34. The theft occurred sometime between 2:30 and 3:00 AM on Sunday February 2, 2020. The reporting party stated that an Apple MacBook computer was missing. The room had been locked at the time of the theft and there were no signs of forced entry.

January 13, 2020

On January 13, 2020 at 11:20 a.m., the MIT Police responded to the Epsilon Theta Fraternity located at 259 St. Paul Street in Brookline on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that sometime between January 9, 2020 and January 10, 2020, someone forced open a rear basement exterior door. Once inside, the suspect(s) forced open two bedroom doors and removed U.S. currency and valuables. 

 

December 2, 2019






 

Incident 1
On December 2, 2019 at approximately 6:45 AM, a report was made to the MIT Police concerning a burglary in Building 14. The theft occurred sometime between 7:00 AM on Thursday, November 28 and 11:00 PM on Sunday, December 1. The reporting party stated that a Bluetooth speaker was missing and there was evidence of property damage. The room had been locked over the weekend and there were no signs of forced entry.

Incident 2
On December 2, 2019 at approximately 7:45 AM, a report was made to the MIT Police concerning a burglary from a room on the second floor of Building 24. The victim stated she locked the area upon departing on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 5:00 PM. When the individual returned to the area on December 2, 2019 at approximately 7:30 AM, a number of items were missing and the area was unlocked. The missing items include 3 laptop computers, some keys to adjoining rooms, an access badge, and a pair of black boots. The badge has been deactivated.

Incident 3
On December 2, 2019 at approximately 10:45 AM, a report was made concerning a burglary on the fourth floor of Building 13. The reporting party stated he left his Apple MacBook laptop on his desk in his locked office when he departed on Thursday, November 28, at approximately 3:30 PM. When he returned to the area at approximately 9:00 AM on December 2, the laptop was missing. There were no signs of forced entry.

November 24, 2019

On November 24, 2019 at 4:00 p.m., the MIT Police responded to the Sigma Nu Fraternity located at 99 Bay State Road on a report of two recent burglaries. The reporting party stated that sometime between November 17, 2019 and November 21, 2019, someone stole two laptop computers from two separate bedrooms located on the fourth and sixth floors. There were no signs of forced entry. 

October 27, 2019

On October 27, 2019, at 4:43 a.m., the MIT Police responded to the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house, located at 119 Bay State Road, on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that he encountered an unknown individual in his third floor bedroom. The suspect fled down the staircase and exited through the front door. The suspect was last seen fleeing Eastbound on Bay State Rd. There were no signs of forced entry, but an open third floor window was accessible by climbing the fire escape. 

October 16, 2019

Please be advised that detailed information below pertains to a report of a sexual assault that occurred on the MIT campus.

According to a report received by the MIT Police on October 15, 2019, a sexual assault occurred near Amherst Alley on Saturday night between the hours of 11:00 PM (10/12/19) and 12:50 AM (10/13/2019). The report states that an unidentified perpetrator left a party at 407 Memorial Drive with the Victim/Survivor and sexually assaulted her near the area of the MIT Tennis Courts at 410 Memorial drive. No suspect description was provided.

September 18, 2019

On September 17, 2019, MIT Police responded to a past burglary at the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity house, which is located at 530 Beacon St. in Boston. Residents reported that a bicycle was stolen from the basement bike storage area sometime between September 16, 2019 at 4:00PM and September 17, 2019 at 07:45AM. There were no signs of forced entry to the doorway of this location. The door may have been unsecured during the time of the burglary. The incident was reported to the MIT Police this evening.
